We have caught the travel bug. Seeing the world with our kids and having adventures that are bigger and broader has become a priority! We’ve done the typical beach condo or mouse ear clad amusement park, but now that kiddos are old enough to “hang”… They’re gonna “hang” somewhere requiring a passport! {Check out our trips with full itineraries in New York City, San Francisco, & Cruising the Caribbean} This summer our adventures took us to Seattle, Vancouver, and Alaska. Vancouver was the city I was so excited to explore. A bounding metropolis in a pristine natural backdrop full of great food, unique neighborhoods, arts, and loads of outdoor fun.

The absolute BEST way to see a city like this is by bike tour! Especially Vancouver! Just like we shared in our NYC Mom-Daughter trip or in our Historic Atlanta highlight, bike tours get you in the heart of the neighborhoods, actively exploring, soaking up the gorgeous weather and always come with a charming and very informative guide. By the end of the tour you’re best friends and feel incredible (partially from the endorphin rush from biking). In fact when planning our trip to Vancouver, the first thing I booked (aside from our Airbnb) was a bike tour with Cycle City Tours. Cycle City Tours has several different tours to choose from (including a Craft Beer Tour!) and we opt for the Stanley Park Tour. It includes the seawall and a trek into the temperate rainforest. Our guide, April (who is crazy fantastic), gets us fitted on the bikes they’ve already pulled for us. You give these geniuses your height and age and when you walk in the door the bikes and helmets are ready and waiting for you. Tall, short, kid, 41 year chick who loves bourbon… no matter what you are or your skill level they’ve got you taken care of. We hop on and play follow the leader to the park.

Vancouver is a city full of high rises and bustling city life. Not all of it is a concrete jungle. On the way to the park, our guide takes us through a neighborhood full of playgrounds and gardens. Gorgeous historical homes set along tree lined streets with beautiful flower beds. So pretty.

Stanley Park is the Central Park of Vancouver. It’s 1000 acres and has beaches, an aquarium, a totem pole park, a seawall, a waterpark, and restaurants. It’s HUGE! Cycle City Tours don’t just take you around but make sure to share the history of Vancouver’s first park.

We learn the stories of the totem poles and the different kinds of poles (which was so cool to learn and came in very handy in Alaska). Our Cycle City guide also takes us into the center of the park, into the temperate rainforest to see 700 year old cedars, a salmon run and a beaver damn. Canadian Mounted Police rode their horses on patrol through the forest. Can this tour get any better? 3 hours later, we felt like we had gained an extra day in the city. There’s no way we could explore the park so well or could have learned so much history about Stanley Park or the city of Vancouver. Amazing Day!
