A Walnut Cocktail: Southern Nocello Nights
Nocello walnut liqueur and walnut bitters blend with Southern Rye Whiskey and Amaro to create the warm and embracing Southern Nights Walnut Cocktail.
I have some AMAZING friends! Being a pretty darn good friend myself, I’d like to think good attracts good, but even I lucked out. My hubby and I tend to think that you have two kinds of family… Your related family (legit blood relatives that is) and your chosen family (peeps who you adore so much you wish you were legit blood relatives). We are very lucky with our chosen people. They are smart, witty, charismatic, humble, hilarious, outright fantastic folks and we are truly blessed.
When you know people really well you also learn their interests and passions in life. I know what gets my peeps mojo flowing and they know mine! Cocktails! When we host a big gathering or housewarming, artful cocktails are always flowing and our “chosen family” bring us new and fun things to keep our bar well loved. Recently my dear friend and design client brought me the most AMAZING bar glasses I’ve ever seen: Bubble glass highball glasses with a pewter stamp monogram. Crazy Right?!? They have now become my (and my hubby’s) “Pimp Cup” for cocktails at home.
We love love love them!
A few times we’ve had “Stock The Bar” parties to celebrate a new move or remodel (mainly because my bar is so empty after tackling such an endeavor… a girl does what she must to survive! Don’t judge..). Those events are filled with our beloved “chosen family” along with our legit ones and they all bring fun, beautiful bottles.
Today’s walnut cocktail is a perfect blend of both the lovely liquors that make my bar gorgeous and the perfectly personalized glassware that our favorite “families” have given us. Southern Rye Whiskey, Nocello Walnut Liqueur, and Amaro (all gift from beloved peeps) make the Southern Nocello Nights Cocktail.
Be it Mentors, Friends, Sisters, Teachers, Neighbors, or Clients, our world is rich and our glass is full because of the incredible people we have around us. Thank you!
A perfect blend of lovely liquors.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Good Whiskey (I used Southern Rye Whiskey)
- 1 oz Nocello Walnut Liqueur
- 1/2 oz Amaro
- 3 dashes Walnut Bitters (I used Fee Brothers)
- 1 oz Lemon Juice (Freshly Squeezed)
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
Instructions
- Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass with one oversized ice cube.
This recipe and many of my cocktail recipes call for homemade simple syrup. It truly is “Simple Syrup”! 1 part sugar gets happy with 1 part water in a hot pot and when the water starts to boil you stir to dissolve the sugar and turn off the heat. Let it cool completely and our into a plastic squeeze bottle (found at any grocery store, Wal-Mart or Target). Keep simple syrup in the fridge.
