Before & After Reveals Interiors Living Space Ideas
Great Room Makeover
Check out all the details for our HUGE transformation in this stunning great room. Spa blue, grey and stone set the stage for all the design details.
I love it when major changes happen to a vital space in a house! This family of four needed a little vibrancy and life added in to their great room along with a big boost of functionality. Here’s where we started….
BEFORE PICS
TASK LIST
- Add built in bookcase and set TV inside
- Large art piece above fireplace
- Over sized piece on upper wall above DR
- Pair of artwork over built in cabinetry
- 9×12 shag rug
- Sectional with right arm chaise
- Square or large round coffee table
- Patterned chair to left of fireplace
- Lamps
- Accessorize new bookcase
- Consign old furniture
This room had a bunch of furniture that didn’t fit the space well and was too formal and traditional for the family’s current design style. All the colors were in golds, reds and browns. We need lighting, artwork, storage and much better seating.
The clients consign the old furniture at a local consignment store and I get my carpenter to build a large built in bookcase that will house the television. I hang a pair of botanical canvases over the bookcases and fill them with family pictures, momentos from the family’s travels, and a few new accessories.
I love these burlap & leather wrapped book boxes found at AT HOME. Old books we grabbed up at the local thrift store.
A custom sectional from Bassett Furniture fits well here. Upholstered in a durable grey tweed and accented with grey and spa blue pillows, it anchors the room over a large tan shag wool rug. We add in a fantastic round wood and metal coffee table. (Round works best most of the time with sectionals so that guests can walk by without hitting knees on corners)
A pretty floral chair from Ashley Furniture in a pattern that brings all the colors of the room together moves into the corner. Behind it a floor lamp adds light and a little cigarette table gives guests a place to rest a cocktail.
A pretty little end table repeats the spa blue color and adds a feminine touch. A mercury glass lamp, picture frame, art glass bowl and woven box (all from HomeGoods) accessorize the table.
The great room has a killer 2 story stacked stone fireplace. I hang a large vertical canvas that has our room’s colors running through it and add some pretty wooden, ceramic and metal accents to the mantle.
A gorgeous botanical canvas is hung over the dining room
Then we finish it all off with a bit of greenery
We did this big makeover in conjunction with the foyer that connects to the great room. You’ll see how important it is for both spaces to have continuity. Check out the HUGE transformation we made in our post FOYER FUN.
